The Baltics of Northern Germany via North Sea Ferry

The Baltics of Northern Germany, Sunday 7th  to 15th May 2017

Mancass in association with Andersons have organised this great 9 day tour to Hamburg, Lubeck, Rostock and Kuhlungsborn on the Baltic Coast. We stay at the 4 * Seehotel Schwannenhof near the small town of Molln. From our pick up points we make our way to Hull to pick up our overnight ferry to Rotterdam. This mode of transport proved very popular last year when we went to Berlin and for people who don't like long coach travel, this is ideal.  Cabin upgrades and meals onboard can be booked in advance and is the preferred and cheapest way to upgrade.

Included in this trip are the excursions listed below:

Hamburg

There is so much to see in Hamburg where do we start. Well morning tour of the city is included with free time in the afternoon to visit whatever takes your fancy

The Reeperbahn is nothing short of a living legend.Formerly a shady sailorman’s red-light district, during the Wirtschaftswunder days of the 1960s and 1970s the area functioned as a stepstone for pop-culture and the Beatles. Then an Eldorado for the uptight German middle-class to live out their clandestine yet blatant sexual desires, the district has started turning into an infinitely trendy neighbourhood in the 1990s. Now, bars and clubs can be found next to art galleries, cabarets, theatres, musicals and high-class restaurants.

If you like shopping then try the Europa passage. With five decks, as the shopping levels are called here, a total of 16 floors (incl. garage and offices) and a length of 160 metres, the Europa Passage has the appearance of a luxurious cruise ship. It is the largest shopping centre in Hamburg’s inner city.

In the year 2007, the elliptical structure, designed by Hadi Teherani, received the renowned MIPIM-Award prize.

Lubeck

To start you on your way we have a 2 hour guided tour to have a look at this picturesque city famed for its many Gothic buildings and also its tasty marzipan, Lubeck (German: Lübeck), is perhaps most famous for its iconic 15th-century Holstentor gateway, which boasts a true fairy tale appearance, with twin cylindrical towers. Behind the Lubeck Holstentor, a city of medieval charm awaits, where you will discover in excess of 1,000 historic buildings, so many in fact that Lubeck has been listed as a World Heritage Site since the mid-1980s.

Much of the best sightseeing in Lubeck lies within the Old Town area, known simply as the 'Altstadt'. Encircled by the Trave River, this appealing part of the city is just a short walk from both the train station (Hauptbahnhof) and the bus station. Nearby, the enormous ferry port lies next to the Baltic Sea, within the suburb of Travemunde, where you will also find several pleasant sandy beachfronts and a true feel of seaside tourism

Rostock

Again we have a local guide to give us a tour of the finer points and not to be missed places.

The traditional brick Gothic style in the historical centre of Rostock is a reminder of the wealth and power the Hanseatic city once possessed. Time-honoured churches, abbeys and city gates create a unique atmosphere that is perfect for taking a stroll or going on a tour. Get to know Rostock and the seaside resort of Warnemünde by going on a guided tour or a sightseeing trip. Bear witness to the architecture of the times gone by and today, learn more about the city’s history and experience the maritime sights. Listen to stories from the past and present, visit the many different and attractive corners of the city and seaside resort to make the most of your stay

Wismar

Come and see the old but lively small town on the Baltic Coast with all its interesting sights, ancient architectural heritage, impressive culture, stories and unique flair. Wismar is surrounded by delightfully vibrant green countryside which stands out in contrast to the luscious blue of the Baltic Sea and the yellow sandy beaches.

A place full of romantic charm... As a UNESCO World Heritage site, Wismar is particularly well-known for its harbour and traditional shipping and fishing industries. The many historic buildings and houses in the centre have been carefully restored to their original hanseatic style. Today these buildings house the small cafés, restaurants

Schwerin

The city of the seven lakes and artistic flair.

Schwerin has just short of 100,000 residents, making it Germany's smallest state capital. It enjoys a picture-perfect location among a series of lakes that reflect both the passing clouds in the northern sky and the city's most famous landmark, Schwerin Castle. A fitting landmark: light, airy, bright and welcoming – just like the city itself.

Ratzeburger See

Time to relax with this half day excursion with a 2 hour cruise on the lake, coffee & cake included

Ratzeburger See is a lake in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. Amidst the lake is an island upon which the City of Ratzeburg is located, accessible from the mainland via three isthmuses. The island is home to the Old Town, including a cathedral - one of the oldest in Germany.
