Manuel, take the guests' bags and show them to their room! This Autumn, check into Fawlty Towers, the world’s most chaotic hotel, at the Opera House, Manchester

In this new comic play, the characters we know and love are all present and correct and nothing at the genteel Torquay hotel is running smoothly – it’s more of a madhouse than a spot for a weekend by the sea. Basil is in a bother of his own making, Sybil is gossiping, Manuel is struggling with his English, and Polly is trying to hold everything together.

Adapted for the stage by John Cleese, who co-created the original TV show with Connie Booth and remains synonymous with the role of Basil Fawlty, the show is based on three of the best-loved episodes: “The Hotel Inspectors”, “Communication Problems”, and “The Germans”. Basil is paranoid that there’s an inspector in his midst, the bad-tempered “guest from hell”, Mrs Richards, in on his case while he tries to hide his gambling from Sybil, and he’s outrageously insensitive towards a group of German visitors while suffering the effects of a concussion. Enjoy three hilariously farcical storylines in one evening!

The 2026 tour is based around the technological advancements of artificial intelligence, what the future holds, and what it truly means to be human within the digital age. With matinee and evening shows across the spring half term and Easter holidays, there are plenty of opportunities for all the family to join in with the excitement.

The future is now. Humans have become plugged in and completely connected to a world full of Artificial Intelligence – A world in which it is hard to distinguish reality from fiction. AI has become so advanced it’s considered a life form of its very own.

Is this the next stage in our evolution? What exactly have we created? What makes us human? ...SOUL.
