Rowes Bowl, Brookdale Golf Course,
Friday 26th June 2026
The posh suburb of Woodhouses was the venue for our next event the Rowes Bowl. Unfortunately once again numbers were much lower than usual despite the lure of a 2’s rollover. A sweltering hot day greeted the golfers and bottles of water provided by Tony Kershaw were most welcome.
Brookdale is a challenging course especially the back 9 and in the heat was even more challenging.
Last month I mentioned the lack of ladies in the society, at the moment, but Betty Fallows had a good day here. She had a nearest the pin on the 5th, followed that with a 2 and received half the pot of the rollover money, I won’t say how much in case anyone from the Inland Revenue is reading this. Next for Betty was a creditable 4th place just missing out on prize money on a card playoff.
Out on the course it was a close race with just 5 points separating the top 6 golfers. Johnny Shepherd got back to winning ways with a 3 point lead finishing with a level par 36 points.
The raffle once again proved a great success with some generous prizes being donated. The target for the Ronald MacDonald room naming is getting ever closer. Rob Goodwin Davey working tirelessly to get us there. Robs Captains Day at Withington should prove to be a day to remember with the work that he has put in to grow the numbers. There will be a double completion that day with the standard Portland Captains Cup along with an inaugural Jack Derbyshire Trophy
