Werneth Golf Club 30th June 2023
John Coburn as Portland Captain this year invited us to Werneth for his Captains Day. A healthy field (well in numbers anyway) of 31 people took part. I wasn’t there personally so have no anecdotes to give you from the day. The numbers were either a result of John being a very popular captain, the offer of a free pint or more likely the fact that the 2’s rollover from Blackley and 5 par 3’s to aim at.
And so on to the results
Five people managed to get a 2 and got £8 each. Our ex, and so far only Lady Captain, Frances Sinnott managed to break the male domination of nearest the pins with a well deserved prize on Hole 3
As you can see local knowledge of the home course proved useful for our Captain as he went on to receive the trophy from
Portland Treasurer Bill Harris. His handicap reduction of 2 shots may slow him down at next event.
Next event Pike Fold Thursday 27th July.
