Presidents Cup @ Royal Blackley GC, May 2023

Royal Blackley Golf Club

19th May 2023

The date was brought forward a week to accommodate some members who were already booked on a golf trip which clashed with original date. No threats were made or toys thrown out of the pram and anyone who says any different has their pants on fire.

Anyway on to the day itself and as is normal at Royal Blackley the sun was shining to greet a good field of 24 golfers ( should have been 28 but a couple of last minute cancellations caused a rejig of starting tees).  The customary bacon butties were consumed and bets laid as to the potential winner. Lots wasted on the home players.

The course was in great condition despite criticism from one long established member but he is renowned for his griping, and was in a minority of one.

The reports are becoming a little boring at the moment with no tails from the course providing amusement.  The results were a close run thing with card playoffs required for 2nd and 4th places. The winner of the Presidents Cup was Johnny Sheperd with a level par 36 points.

The golfers were all treated to a traditional first pint by the President, the treasurer at Blackley will have wondered what was going on as Mel doesn’t spend that much in a month never mind a day. Unusually the signature dish of fish pie was ignored and a roast chicken provided instead. The chef was most put out, but,  as usual in the present climate the wishes of the minority rule over  the greater majority.

Next event Captains Cup at Werneth Friday 14th June 2023 where a rollover of the 2’s money should ensure an exciting day
