The Autumn Cup @ Denton GC, Report,  FridaySeptember 24th  2021

This being the final individual competition of the 2021 season it was fitting to hold it at the home of our vice Captain and next year’s Captain Ernie Rowlands.  The course was in excellent condition and some good scores returned.

It was good to see the return of Dave Saville after a long absence due to illness and pots of operations. Following tales of his trials and tribulations I almost expected a cross between the 6 Million Dollar man and Robocop. This didn’t materialise in the scoring but it was great to see Dave back enjoying himself among friends again.

There is still some disquiet about the handicap system and some further tweaks needed in time for next season. Any suggestions gratefully received as to how we can improve There are an awful  lot of Dick Turpins gang out there at the moment, around 30% of the field playing off 28.

Despite having his handicap reduced after winning at Sale, Martin Claffey then returned an incredible score of 43 points further reductions required. His normal speciality of winning the longest drive has been usurped by a new kid on the block (kid is pushing it a bit) but for the second event in a row Rob Chadwick took the spoils. I think he’s been doing a De Chambeau in the gym following his retirement.

On to the results.
